Privacy by Design: statement2xlsx is designed with privacy as a core principle. All processing happens locally on your computer. Your bank statements and financial data never leave your machine unless you explicitly choose to share them.

What Data is Processed

Input Data

The software processes bank statement PDF files that may contain:

  • Account holder name and account numbers
  • Transaction dates and descriptions
  • Transaction amounts (credits, debits, balances)
  • Bank branch and statement period information
  • Reference numbers and payment details

Output Data

The software generates:

  • Excel/CSV files containing extracted transaction data
  • Debug artifacts (when debug mode is enabled)
  • Calibration reports (when calibrating templates)

No Additional Data Collection

  • No telemetry: We do not track usage statistics
  • No analytics: We do not monitor how you use the software
  • No network calls: The software works completely offline
  • No account required: No registration or login needed

Where Data is Stored

All data remains on your local machine:

Debug Bundles

Debug bundles are ZIP files containing extraction artifacts, useful for troubleshooting and improving templates.

Before sharing a debug bundle for support:
  1. Review the contents - Open the ZIP and inspect files
  2. Redact if needed - Remove or mask sensitive data
  3. Never share original PDFs unless absolutely necessary

Web UI Data Handling

When using the web interface (statement2xlsx serve):

  • Runs on localhost only by default
  • Not accessible from other machines unless you configure it
  • No data leaves your local network
  • Uploaded PDFs are processed in memory
  • Temporary files are deleted after response is sent
  • No cookies, session tracking, or persistent storage

Compliance Considerations

POPIA (South Africa)

Since statement2xlsx processes data locally:

  • You remain the responsible party for any personal data
  • No data sharing with third parties occurs through the software
  • Data subject rights remain your responsibility

GDPR (European Union)

  • No data transfer outside your organization
  • No cloud processing means no cross-border data transfer concerns
  • Data minimization is supported - extract only what you need
